When Life Asks, “What’s Next?”

There comes a time — often after 55 — when life’s rhythm changes.
The children are grown. The career chapter has slowed or closed. The days stretch wider, and the question quietly rises:
“What’s next for me?”

I know that question well. I’ve lived it.
And now, it’s at the heart of everything I do.

I’m R.A. Murphy — writer, teacher, podcaster, and lifelong explainer — and I help older adults navigate that “What’s Next” moment: the in-between place where identity, purpose, and new possibility begin to take shape.

A good life isn’t something we finish building.

It’s something we keep discovering.

The Work I Do

Through my books, podcasts, and audio courses, I guide people in finding renewed meaning and direction after midlife — not by reinventing themselves, but by reconnecting with who they already are.

That journey takes many forms:

I spent decades in technology and education — teaching, managing, and mentoring.
But when my own corporate career ended, I faced that quiet question myself.
It wasn’t about money or success anymore. It was about meaning.
What mattered now? What was worth doing with the time that remained?

What I discovered changed everything:
Purpose doesn’t retire. It evolves.

Now I spend my days helping others uncover that same truth — that you can begin again, with wisdom as your greatest advantage.
