I captured the original, image of this bright-red, Northern Cardinal on a fine fall day in Florida. Cardinals can often be found living near people. Male cardinals sport a bright red coat. And while I’ve brightened the hue for this artwork, his natural feathers are really not that different. Sometimes they’re even just called “red birds.” Mama Cardinals and the young are typically more muted in color – for protective reasons since they spend more time in the nest.
If you’re familiar with Cardinals, you might wonder where his crest is? Apparently this guy was just chilling on the day I spotted him. The crest lies flat when they’re relaxed. Typically, it only stands erect when a Cardinal is worried or annoyed. He must not have minded me taking his picture!
How I Create My Art
I make art digitally, combining my camera with my computer. The process begins with an actual photograph I make. Then I use a variety of imaging, editing, and digital painting software to transform the photo into a completely new, one-of-a-kind art work. I work with each image individually, so that I get exactly the colors and textures that I think best present the work. I’m never working toward a realistic depiction, but rather I combine colors and shapes to develop an harmonious approach. Once it’s complete, the image is printed archivally, on paper, canvas, metal or other substrate ready for you to display in your home or office. As far as a style goes, I group my works into contemporary post-impressionism. For more information, check my About pages.
